About

I studied Provincial Roman Archaeology, Classical Archaeology, Jewish Studies and Early Medieval Archaeology (Vor- und Frühgeschichte) at the Universities of Cologne and Bonn
I finished my studies in 1997 (M.A.) with a thesis on the military belt of the Roman soldier, the cingulum: Studien zu den römischen Militärgürteln des 1. und 2. Jahrhunderts in den germanischen Provinzen und Rätien.
I subsequently took part in several excavations of the Archäologisches Institut of the University of Cologne in both Germany and the Near East.
In 2002, finished my dissertation on the culture of Roman bathing and the baths in Palestine (Baths and Bathing. The Culture of Bathing and the Baths and thermae in Israel from the Hasmoneans to the Moslem Conquest (with an Appendix on Miqva’ot).

I started working as a post excavation specialist in Roman metal in the Netherlands in 2004 and since 2008 run my own company, Small Finds Archaeology.

Since April 2010, I have been working as “Assistant” (assistant professor) of Provincial Roman Archaeology at the University of Cologne, as a stand-in for PD Dr. S. Ortisi. In my spare time, I am writing a book on the Roman military belt.
